“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”
― Animal Farm, George Orwell

For many, this is just an overhyped anime. But for me, this is E-Elegant! After all, there is no exquisite beauty without some strangeness in the proportions. Loid Forger is the embodiment of selflessness, dedicating his life to maintaining peace in order to create a world where kids don’t need to cry. More than his genius-level intellect and extraordinary talent as a spy, at times like ours, his and his family’s aspirations are what we need today.

True to our days today, an all-out-war that we should prevent. No matter what the reason is, war is never just, even if it is fought for a reason that is “justified”. Is it really justified? Misguided ideas of power and of righteousness motivate wars. Spy x Family may not tell us whether war is permitted or not, but it relates a lot to justice, the sanctity of life, and the importance of resolving conflict and working for peace.

Even in the prequel’s ending theme song, “Comedy” by Gen Hoshino, if you look closely at the lyrics, it doesn’t stem from happiness but from hope—a hope that, no matter how absurd our world may be, we will all experience the miracle of having a family who understands and loves us at some point in our lives.

Most importantly, people should realize that ignorance is not bliss, but a sin. What we need most is information, not guns. After all, the answer lies within us since all the problems originate from within man. This anime can serve as a medium to help us reflect and think differently.

All I hope for Loid and his world is the same for this world. A world where all kids—your inner child, my inner child—don’t need to cry. And this is why Spy x Family is not an overhyped anime.
