Synopsis
Uncle from Another World begin after a fatal encounter with a truck, Takafumi Takaoka’s uncle, Yousuke “Ojisan” Shibazaki, lies comatose for 17 years. When he finally regains consciousness, Ojisan begins to ramble in a foreign tongue and reveals that he had been transported to a magical world called Gran Bahamal. Takafumi dismisses his uncle’s claims as nonsense until an incantation makes a cup of water hover in the air. In a flash of brilliance, the pair creates a YouTube channel to showcase Ojisan’s magical abilities.
The responsibility now falls on Takafumi’s shoulders to acquaint Ojisan with everything that has transpired during his absence, including getting him up to speed with the internet, new technology, and surprisingly, the outcome of the ’90s console war—the result of which was especially distressing for a hardcore SEGA fan. With Ojisan’s wisdom from his other world experiences, they grow their YouTube channel and tackle online comments and trolls. The journey of this uncle-nephew duo promises to be anything but conventional.

Then you should watch this anime.
Some of you that haven’t read the manga like me, after looking at the simple title, at some point will think, “oh another isekai anime about pathetic NEET getting reincarnated again”
But in the end you try to watch it, just to see how bland and generic it is.
You watch the first scene, a NEET looking boy that use a glasses, walking down the street and suddenly there’s a truck-kun trying to pass through.
You expected that boy will getting hit by the truck, but he didn’t.
Later you figured out that he trying to make a visit to his uncle that have been wake up after 17 years of coma.
You’re wandering, what’s so isekai about this?
The scene continue where the uncle suddenly say that he has been to isekai for 17 years and then he start chanting weird spell and trying to lift a cup of water from a table, you think to yourself “where’s the isekai, is he just a delusional old man that think he’s ever gone to isekai ?, it’s a unique concept but that’s not interesting at all”, you almost stopped watching but then he somehow able to lift that cup.
It’s later revealed that what this old man told is a truth, you realized that this anime is not about a man journey in isekai but about a man retelling his story of 17 years in isekai… sort of.
We have another hidden gems this season, this is one of my favorites anime so far, the anime that I barely wanna watch ended become one of the anime that I anticipated the most every week.
The story is about a our MC waking up from his coma, if you expected to have a decent looking male MC then sorry, you ain’t getting it here. Instead you got a frail looking middle aged man that lowkey… kinda ugly (he has an amazing smile tho) and not only that, he’s a geek and a nerd and not just an ordinary nerd, HE’S A SEGA NERD. The lack of romance along his life has rendered him insensitive to basically everything love related which make him look pretty much like nowadays incel… a kind incel actually.
His nephew, Takafumi who probably lack of romance as well yet still have a sensitive side question his uncle decision along his journey on isekai.
Starting from abandoning a tsundere elf that definitely has a crush on him, missing the chance to have an ice girl to accompany him and other “bad” decision that makes us think “WHY WOULD YOU FCKING DO THAT?”
The story itself is already a big selling point to due to it’s unique set up,sure we have gotten a lot of reverse isekai for years but nowadays reverse isekai is kinda rare,a good one like this is even rarer.
The character is also likeable despite the annoying-ish demeanor of our MCs, where one is too pushy and loud while the other one is too silent and dull, I still found them lovable.
All the female lead is also lovable, each have different personalities.
Fujimiya is shy yet aggressive
Elf-san is your old school tsundere
Mabel is a kuudere with a little bit of sinister side
Alicia is the cheerful one.
And not gonna lie, they’re all kinda hot… to me at least.
The OP and ED are good, I also like the OP animation where Uncle from Another World do that goofy dance.
The character design is already good, but the overall animation is kinda off, it looks like as if I’m watching a horror-thriller anime, the atmosphere and the animation is gritty and dark, very contradictive to the anime, but still enjoyable nonetheless.
Overall very recommended Uncle from Another World, a hidden gems.
